Reymond's interest in singing began when he was in grade school. He had been singing as early as the first grade, but was yet unsure of himself at the time. Then, when he was around nine, he discovered his sister's multiplex tapes that she often left in their sound system. It was then that he really got into singing. He joined his first singing contest in the fifth grade when his teacher chose him to represent his class.
He quickly proved his talent when he won the competition. Before deciding to pursue his dream full-time, Reymond took units in Advertising Management and also studied Voice at the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music for three years. He finished Hotel and Restaurant Management in his hometown of Lucena City and took the opportunity to work in Canada to finish his practicum hours. There he experienced being banquet server and front desk officer in a hotel, dietary aide in a nursing home, and sales associate at Gap. Despite his work experiences, Reymond still wanted to pursue singing. This passion paved way for him audition in the Hamilton Talent Hunt. He was the only Filipino singer who got in the finals and eventually bagged the grand prize with his rendition of “This is the Moment”. He then decided to come back to the Philippines to follow his dreams. At first he met with some discouragement from well-meaning people close to him who were concerned about the instability of a career in music.
But Reymond knew what he really wanted, and in the end, it was the same people who lent him their wholehearted support. He started out by joining Trumpets, where he was an understudy for the role of Prince Christian in the musical “The Little Mermaid” which ran for 3 months. After which, he took the opportunity to audition for “Philippine Idol” and made it all the way into the Top 12. His clean and excellent singing technique consistently drew praises from the judges and was one of the top contenders to win the title. Although he didn't make the big win, Reymond went on to even bigger things.
In July 2007, he represented the country at the World Championships of the Performing Arts in Hollywood, where he bagged the title Grand Champion Senior Vocalist of the World besting hundreds of singers from more than 50 countries. Along with the title, he also brought home 2 gold & 2 silvers medals, 1 Industry award and 2 plaques. This year, Reymond is set to make waves in the local music scene as he releases his debut album under Songstream Music, exclusively distributed by Sony BMG. Entitled “Reymond Sajor: Coming Home,” it is produced by Gerard Salonga, with one track co-produced by Vehnee Saturno. The first single of the same title was composed by Nashville-based Andrew Fromm, who has also written songs for the Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, Westlife and Marc Anthony. Other tracks include a popular remake of “Be My Lady,” “Nella Fantasia,” popularized by Sarah Brightman and Il Divo, Reymond's winning piece “Anthem” and original compositions by California-based Fil-Am Ritchie Lapaz. The album has flavors of pop and alternative, injected with ballads.
Though Reymond is a balladeer, some of the tracks are more upbeat, showcasing his range in music. Other highlights of the album are the orchestral accompaniment by Filharmonika and the outstanding job done by renowned audio mastering engineer Bob Katz. The release promises to bring something fresh to the local music scene. With a winning combination of talent, drive, strong faith and a great personality, Reymond can look forward to a bright future in music. Early September he was signed to S2S and in the process of working on his international album.
